Greetings Rod,
So many home projects, so little time. If I’m not painting walls, I’m building planter boxes or working on a new path in the yard or doing slight modifications to the RV or or or…
Or…..
WATCHING MY SEAHAWKS WIN THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!!!
What a remarkable run, winning their last seven regular season games and ending with a 14-3 record and then completely dominating the playoffs and Super Bowl. I wasn’t worried. Not for minute. Not even when the Hawks had to face the Rams and 49ers in the playoffs.
OK, maybe a minute. Especially when playing the Rams.
All of that on top of the Seattle Mariners coming a couple outs away from going to the World Series.
Alright, that’s enough sports talk. For now.

Faroe Islands 2027

The Faroe Islands are remote, mysterious, and seriously dramatic—but also stunningly beautiful. If you’re into landscape photography, this place is a magnet.
The islands get hit hard by the elements: massive cliffs shoot up from the ocean, and huge waves crash into the shore, carving out wild formations.
Tucked away in the Atlantic, halfway between Norway and Iceland, National Geographic called the Faroe Islands the most authentic and untouched group of islands in the world.
This tour is scheduled for October 1-8, 2027 and I’ll be partnering with Lofoten Photo Tours.
Autumn in the Faroe Islands boasts a landscape with rich earth tones: the grasses turns vibrant hues of rust, bronze, and yellow, creating a color contrast with the blues of the ocean and moody skies.
Autumn is also a time of fewer tourists so we may have many locations all to ourselves.
I’m buttoning up some details for this trip. If you haven’t told me already, let me know if you want to be put on the notify list when this tour opens to registration.

Olympic and Bandon
This May I'm teaming up with Margo Pinkerton of Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures for two workshops: Olympic National Park in Washington (May 8-22) and Bandon on the Oregon (May 25-29).

Many of you already know that I live on the Olympic peninsula and have spent lots of time in the park backpacking (in younger days) and photographing. I've also spent plenty of time on the Oregon Coast while leading/co-leading workshops, or working on the two books I've done on the coast, or, lately, just enjoying it from our RV.

We still have room for you in either or both of these workshops (sign up for both and get a discount).
More information may be found on my Olympic National Park page and my Bandon page.

Yellowknife with NANPA

I have two Yellowknife aurora tours this coming September. The Sept. 14-21 tour is sold out (waiting list). But I’m also leading a tour Sept. 7-14 in partnership with NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association)
I’m still waiting for word as to when NANPA is going to open this tour to registration.
The tour will be open to members and non-members alike. I’ll have a discount code for non-members to sign up at the member price. If you’re interested and want to be notified, let me know. Once I get the discount code I'll send it to the "interested" list.
And if you’re curious about the tour, you can take a look at my Yellowknife auroras page.

Rolling Hills of the Palouse

The Steptoe Butte road is scheduled to be reopened any day now. That means we'll again be able to take in and photograph the fantastic views all along that road and the top of Steptoe!
I've lost count of the number of trips I've made to the Palouse. Pretty much every year for the last 20 or 25 years (or so).
And I'll be heading back once again this June 16-21 to lead another workshop. I've still got a few spaces left, so if you're ready to fill that photo bucket list with Palouse images, head on over to my Palouse page to sign up!

Lofoten Islands

Last year around this time I was visiting the Lofoten Islands in Norway for the first time. What a spectacular place! I liked it so much that I'm going back again around this time next year.
If you're interested in joining me, visit the Lofoten page on my Workshops site.

Copyright 2026
If you're a fellow photographer and you haven't done this already, don't forget to create a new metadata preset for your 2026 images.
It's easy to do in Lightroom. From the Library Module go to Metadata > Edit Metadata Presets...
From there, you can choose your existing preset from the Preset dropdown or make a new one. I chose my "2025 Copyright and Licensing" preset and then just changed the year in the Copyright field. Then I clicked on the Preset dropdown again and scrolled to the bottom and clicked on Save Current Settings as New Preset... and named it "2026 copyright and licensing" and clicked Create.
If you're creating a new preset, just fill out the metadata fields you want embedded in your images such as your address and contact info as well as your website, Rights Usage Terms, etc.
That's all there is to creating the preset. Don't forget to add the new preset to your Import dialog whenever you're importing new pictures this year.
Happy New Images Year!
Go Hawks!!
