Greetings,
Just to let you know, I do have real photo related news to impart.....
But OMG, Syndey is so cute and funny and smart and is the bestest little girl ever! (probably tied)
We've had her now for just a little over two weeks and she's already grown a little and has pretty much taken over the house!

Sydney

So far Sydney has been a bundle of love. With teeth. Being a puppy, she likes to bite everything. Especially mommy and daddy.
She’s already learned that potty belongs outside (we only had a few minor accidents in the first few days) and that her crates (yes, she has multiple crates) are great places for naps.
She likes mommy’s lap better than daddy’s. She seems to like our slippers equally.
I think it will still be quite a while before she’s ready for the kinds of adventures I had with Bailey.
Like meeting Leo. A story for the ages.
Or exploring the woods.
Or meeting a cougar, which I hope doesn’t happen again.
I know she’s not yet up to writing her own blog, like Bailey did. But time will tell.

Discovery Tails
Just wanted to give a shout out to Discovery Tails Labradoodles in Sequim, WA. It's a family run breeder of Australian Labradoodles that we were lucky enough to find when we started the search for a new family member. Who knew there was a breeder so close to home?
Discovery Tails Labradoodles is owned by Vicki McCormack and I can't say enough nice things about her and the way she and her husband run the business. The pups are are born at their home and are socialized early on. They love being around people, and we could see this early on via the puppy-cams that Vicki set up. Puppy-cam became very addictive!
And you can tell that Vicki loves doing what she does.
If you're looking for a new family member, I don't know that you could do any better.

Bosque & White Sands
Registration is open for the Bosque del Apache/White Sands National Park workshop I'm co-leading with Cliff Zenor December 7-11, 2024.
If you read last month's newsletter, you know that Cliff is retiring and this is his last hurrah. Unless, like Tom Brady, he comes out of retirement to lead yet another team to the Super Bowl. Or maybe a trip to the Galapagos or Acadia or somewhere else.
Last time we did these two locations together we had a great time. Awesome sunrises and sunsets, great wildlife, and fantastic scenery. It's truly a wonderful area for all around outdoor and nature photography.
See, I'm trying to fit in photography related stuff. I don't know how that picture of Sydney got there...
But if you want to see some pictures of Bosque and White Sands and get some more information about this workshop, click here.

Olympic and Palouse openings

I have room in both my Olympic National Park workshop (May 12-17) and my Palouse workshop (June 17-21).
Both of these trips will feature time in the classroom for critiques and instruction. Each are limited to seven participants.
The Olympics and the Palouse are the two areas I've spent most of my time in. I started backpacking in the Olympics in the early 1990s and have been visiting regularly ever since. In 2001 I began leading workshops there. In fact, the very first workshop I did for Great American Photography Workshops was as a co-leader with Cliff Zenor in Olympic. I've now lost track of the number of workshops I've done in Olympic.
Similarly, I've been leading or co-leading trips to the Palouse for around 20 years.
Again, I'm not sure how Sydney managed to get her cute little nose in there.

NANPA Regional Event

If you don’t have time for my Olympic workshop, another option is the May 30 – June 2 NANPA regional event in Olympic that I’m leading. This tour is about half as long as my regular workshop, but we’ll still be able to hit the highlights, like the Hoh, Sol Duc, Lake Crescent, and the beaches.
This is a tour, rather than a workshop so while I'll be available in the field to help and answer questions, there will be no classroom time. This event is limited to 10 participants.
The early bird rate ends on March 22nd and you don’t even need to be a NANPA member.
Sydney! I thought you were taking a nap!

Lofoten Islands photo tours
I have one space still available in my Lofoten Islands Feb. 6-12, 2025 arctic wonderland photo tour.
We’ll photograph beaches, villages, mountain scenery, auroras (weather depending), and more!
The January 31-Feb. 6 tour is sold out, but if you're interested in that date, let me know and I'll put you on the waiting list.
I thought Syd was never going to fall asleep.

We have a doggy again!

I'd forgotten how much work a puppy can be. Fortunately, Sydney enjoys sleeping in her crate in my office so I am able to find some time, between playing and feeding and trying to train her, to get some actual work done.
I had also forgotten how nice it is to wake up to doggy kisses and I'm looking forward to all the adventures to come!
