Greetings,
As the rain and cold continues here, I find myself enmeshed in multiple projects. We’re having some residing done on our house, which will also involve removing our old gas fireplace and its support structure. And we’re awaiting the arrival of a new house member. No, not another dog. Not yet….
No, we bought a new wood stove! Something to help alleviate the rising cost of propane as well as add a nice touch of coziness (and a good place for future puppy to curl up in front of). We rarely used our gas fireplace, not because we didn’t like having a fire. More because it was so inefficient and really didn’t do much to heat the house.
So my projects include building a hearth pad (to place the stove in the corner where the tv currently is) and relocating a couple of coax cable outlets to the wall where the gas fireplace used to live and where the tv will soon be. Among a few other projects...
Anyway, on with this month's news, which include my first thoughts on the new Maven Magnetic Color Coded filters and some workshop/tour updates.

Maven Filters first impression

Well, I receive my Maven color coded magnetic filters. I haven’t had the chance to get them out in the field, though I’m itching to. But I do have a number of first impressions.
Click on over to my blog for those.

Workshop updates

Smokies and NC waterfalls: Cliff Zenor and I have decided to cancel these two workshops but we’re planning on trying again next year. The dates will be similar (late April to early May) but we’ve not set them yet. If you’re interested in either trip, let me know and I’ll put you on the early bird list (there may be a discount involved….).
Olympic: Only three spaces left in this workshop that is limited to just seven. The hotel block reservation deadline is coming up next month, so if you’re even just thinking about this trip, let me know so I can make sure a room can be saved. May 16-21.
Palouse: There are just a few spaces left for this bucket list destination. This trip is also limited to seven, so it’s going to be a small group. June 19-24.
Sitka: I still have space in my first tour to photograph Humpback whales, sea birds, fishing boats, otters, eagles, harbors, landscapes and more. August 4-9. This trip is limited to four participants.
Auroras of Yellowknife: I have limited availability. The first tour is now sold out but there is still one space left in the second tour, Sept. 18-25.
Colorado Fall Colors: There is still room to join us this fall to one of the premier fall color destinations. Limited to eight, with two instructors. October 1-6.
Bosque del Apache: Spaces are available to join us for this epic wildlife spectacle. November 29 – December 3.
White Sands National Park: Stark and beautiful, a great place for creating striking as well as subtle landscape images. Still spaces available. December 5-9.

Any interest in visiting Oregon?
I’ve got some space in my schedule to add a trip or two, so I was thinking of going back to the Oregon Coast in either late July (Newport) or late October (Bandon, or possibly Silver Falls State Park and Bandon).
I’m also toying with the idea of resurrecting my old Willamette Valley wineries photo tour for late October.
This one is a lot of fun, especially if you’re a fan of good wine and good food.Oh yeah, and great locations for photography. Almost forgot about that one! Might even combine this with a visit to Silver Falls State Park!
Drop me a line if any of these ideas tickle your fancy.

In closing
That's all I have for now. With any luck, I'll find a spare moment or two to give those Maven filters a real test drive.
